Windows 10: One Name To Rule Them All…NOT!

Way back when, Apple released OS X and made fun of Microsoft’s numerous iterations of Windows. There were so many versions of Windows Vista, 7 and 8 that it took a degree in mathematics to decipher which version of buy. Well, Microsoft released the version names for each iteration of Windows 10. One would think they would release one, and only one, version of Windows 10 to run them all. Alas, that is not the case (hat tip TechCrunch):

  • Windows 10 Home
  • Windows 10 Mobile
  • Windows 10 Pro
  • Windows 10 Enterprise
  • Windows 10 Education
  • Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise
  • Windows 10 IoT Core

You can read Microsoft’s description of each version here.

I thought Microsoft was being different. Old habits die hard. The ghost of Steve Ballmer is still haunting the halls of Microsoft. Do we need SEVEN versions of Windows 10? Are their sales teams so segregated that they each need their own version to sell? Why not just have two? Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile?

Microsoft still has a lot of baggage to shake off. It won’t happen overnight. This would have been the best time to show the world a new and improved Microsoft. Maybe next time…
